OREN
AMBARCHI
"Quixotism"
A LP-length piece in
five parts. Ambarchi’s work in recent years has evinced an increasing
fascination with the possibilities of combining abstract sonic textures
with rhythm and pulse. The entirety of this long-form work is built
on a foundation of pulsing double-time electronic percussion provided
by Thomas Brinkmann.

DORIAN
CONCEPT
"Joined ends"
Austrian
MicroKorg maestro Dorian Concept has returned from the depths of his
studio to present his second album, Joined Ends. Oliver Thomas Johnson’s
second album, Joined Ends, sees a departure from the MicroKorg madness
and instead opts for a more analogue sound; it is somewhat calmer than
his earlier work, paving the way for twelve tracks to explore different
soundscapes.

VLADISLAV
DELAY

Following the frenetic, rhythmic
experiments of the Ripatti 12” series, Vladislav Delay returns
with his first ambient album in over a decade. Visa is a thing of immense,
absorbing beauty, harking back to his classic albums for Chain reaction
and Mille Plateaux, extending 6 longform pieces over an hour of heady

LAWRENCE
"A day in the life"
Lawrence returns with a new album for Mule Musiq, produced
on the road over the last couple of years and then edited back in his
studio in Hamburg. It’s a sweetly ambient affair in the fine tradition
of classic Artificial Intelligence productions, with the title track
itself providing a knowing nod to the iconic Selected Ambient Works
material. Elsewhere, Nowhere Is A Place harks black to classic B12 and
early Black Dog productions, while Simmer situates itself somewhere
between the sort of thing the 12k label were releasing back in the mid
noughties and Pete Namlook’s most heady Fax output.

JON
HOPKINS
"Immunity + Asleep versions"
Jon Hopkins announced
the release of a 4 track EP, entitled Asleep Versions. Asleep Versions
was recorded at Sundlaugin Studios, near Reykjavik, in February of this
year. Intended to be heard as one single 25 minute piece, it is composed
of four decelerated, dreamlike re-imaginings of tracks from the Mercury-nominated
Immunity. At times almost painfully beautiful, the EP contains a new,
semi-acoustic re-interpretation of album track Form By Firelight, featuring
additional vocals from the Braids and Blue Hawaii lead vocalist, Raphaelle
Standell.

LOCUST
"After the rain"
Seefeel founding member Mark Van
Hoen created some of the finest examples of early IDM as Locust for
R&S’s legendary ambient sub-label Apollo back in the 90s.
After a stretch of releases between 1993 and 2001, the project went
on hiatus, returning only now with Locust After The Rain, following
a release under his own name also for Editions Mego in 2012. The album
sees Van Hoen working with longtime collaborator Louis Sherman and features
vocals from Celeste Griffin, Candace Miller and Julie Manescau.

TUJIKO NORIKO
"My ghost comes back"
The aptly named My Ghost Comes
Back witnesses the return of Tujiko Noriko after a hiatus exploring
worlds beyond those we regularly inhabit. The results of these travels
provided the formula for this, her most accomplished record to date.
As rich in ambition as it is skewered in it's melodic stance, My Ghost
Comes Back is a decidedly more acoustic affair in which a host of guest
musicians incorporate mandolin, viola, musical saw, optigon and other
such wares into the exotic environment where her unique songwriting
now resides.

LOSCIL
"Sea island"
Sea Island is Vancouver
ambient artist Scott Morgan's first LP for Kranky since 2012's Sketches
From New Brighton. Comprising a mixture of tried-and-tested live tracks
and others written in the studio, the album reportedly represents a
range of compositional approaches from deeply-layered textures to more
improvisational methods, including work with acoustic instruments such
as the piano, vibraphone and violin played by a cast of local musicians,
as well as Seattle pianist Kelly Wyse and vocalist Ashley Pitre.

SILK RHODES
"S/t"
Lean, indeed silky sounds from
Silk Rhodes, a Baltimore duo who put a pretty wonderful contemporary
spin 70's funky soul influences, as filtered through 80's boogie and
electro and hip hop beatcraft. If that doesn't sound all that original
as described, you really outta give this a listen, because it's got
quite a distinctive vibe. Very promising stuff on the always adventurous
Stones Throw label. Includes Pains, Face 2 Face, Realtime, Barely New,
Horizon Line and more.

world sounds and the exploration of electronic music, from ancient ethnic
instruments to the low pitch of the 808. It is an imaginary nighttime
safari using field recordings from the four corners of the world, samples
taken from hidden records, african polyrhythms and kraut synths.

ANDY
STOTT
"Faith in strangers"
Faith In Strangers’
was written and produced between January 2013 and June 2014, and was
edited and sequenced in late July this year. Making use of on an array
of instruments, field recordings, found sounds and vocal treatments,
it’s a largely analogue variant of hi-tech production styles arcing
from the dissonant to the sublime. The first two tracks recorded during
these early sessions bookend the release, Time Away featuring Euphonium
played by Kim Holly Thorpe and Missing, a contribution by Stott’s
occasional vocal collaborator Alison Skidmore.

ZURICH
"S/t"
Zurich
began as a 1994 musical partnership between Neil Halstead then of Slowdive
and Tony F Wilson. Recorded at a time when the popularity of ambient
techno was at its peak, these recordings are remarkably austere by comparison.
All of the recordings were lost until very recently when Touch recording
artist Mark Van Hoen found the two tracks on old Cd-Rs and cassettes
he was given by Wilson. This Cd version of the original LP release includes
bonus tracks.
