"Thr!!!er"
"Over the course
of many long van rides and post-coffee verbal riff sessions", guitarist
Mario Andreoni explains, "Thriller didn't merely represent the
selling of a lot of records...it became synonymous with an artist(s)
and/or genre(s) artistic high-water mark. INXS' Kick is the Australian
Thriller, Alanis's Jagged Little Pill is the Canadian Thriller, Whams
Make It Big is the blow-dryer's Thriller...

APRIL MARCH
"April March and Aquaserge"
There are great albums,
then there are records that take you somewhere. In the case of April
March and Aquaserge, it's to a '60s Paris brimming with style, spirit
and seduction. It's a slow kiss amid the hustle and bustle of a Belleville
patisserie, the final chapters of a Ginsberg novel read crisping in
the sun on the banks of the Seine, a wine-soaked night chasing shadows
down the cobbled streets of Place de la Bastille.

FLAMING
LIPS
"The terror"
The Terror is the thirteenth
studio album by experimental rock band The Flaming Lips, released on
Warner Bros in the U.S. and Bella Union in the U.K. Lead vocalist Wayne
Coyne described the album's general idea in a press release:
"We want, or wanted, to believe that
without love we would disappear, that love, somehow, would save us that,
yeah, if we have love, give love and know love, we are truly alive and
if there is no love, there would be no life. The Terror is, we know
now, that even without love, life goes on... we just go on… there
is no mercy killing."

BIBIO
"Silver Wilkinson"
2013 release, the first
new music in two years from one of Warp's most highly respected young
artists. Bibio strived for what could be called a panoramic filmic sound.
A combination of what he'd already learned from the past and what he
still wanted to achieve. From this mixture of years of experience and
exploration of new sounds results a meditative and mature album.

LOW
"Invisible way"
How is this different
from any other Low record?
- Mimi sings lead on five of the eleven songs (she usually only does
one or two, despite being a fan favorite).
- Piano, lots of piano... and an acoustic guitar.
- Songs about intimacy, the drug war, the class war, plain old war war,
archeology, and love.

JAGA JAZZIST
"Live with Britten Sinfonia"
Live album capturing
Jaga Jazzist on stage at The Barbican with the Britten Sinfonia. The
goateed attack of opener ‘One-Armed Bandit’ is such that
you could be listening to Nucleus or Centipede or one of those woolly
70s British fusion groups, with due prominence given to proggy electric
guitar, fuzz bass, flutes and vibes.

LOCUST
"You'll be safe forever"
First Locust record in
12 years! Mark Van Hoen, who made a string of influential releases as
Locust on R&S records in the 1990's, all but retired the alias at
the end of that decade. The record showcases prime examples of Van Hoen's
compulsively hypnotic beats and abstracted pop vocals—already
hallmarks of his collected work since 1993—manipulating a global
variety of samples in Celemony's Melodyne software to weave a unique
sonic tapestry, as inviting as it is intricate.

MISS KITTIN
"Calling from the stars"
Her third solo album,
Calling From The Stars, offers the deepest view yet into the soul of
the multi-talented Caroline Hervé. The result of this freedom
is Kittin's most personal album to date. This newly found maturity is
evident across disc one, with themes of loss (Night Of Life), melancholy
(Tears Like Kisses), love (Eleven) and confidence (What To Wear) explored
over brooding electronic soundscapes.

RHYE
"Woman"
Rhye release their debut
album Woman to much applause. A lot of mystery surrounded Rhye before
their identity was discovered. Was it a solo act, a duo or a band? And
they almost definitely had a lead female vocalist, one that sort of
had the poise of Jessie Ware and the more timid front of Romy from The
XX. But no, there is no leading lady involved in Rhye's music. It's
Toronto-born producer Milosh who lends his gentle Falsetto tone to the
10-track album.

RIP RIG + PANIC
"God"
Named after a Roland
Kirk album, Rip Rig + Panic were one of the most exciting bandsof the
1980s, fusing funk, jazz, punk and world music influences into a unique
whole. With lead singer Neneh Cherry, the band recorded three albums
for Virgin Records which have never been legitimately available on Cd.
All three LPs are now remastered from the original master tapes with
a raft of bonus tracks taken from non-album singles. Original band members
Gareth Sager (ex-Pop Group) and Mark Springer are involved with these
releases, with the blessing of Neneh Cherry and (current PiL) drummer
Bruce Smith.
